Résumé
The First Meeting of the Working Group of the Follow-up Committee on the Implementation of the Dakar/Ngor Declaration (DND) and the ICPD Programme of Action (ICPD-PA) was held in Dakar, Senegal, on 6–7 May 1998. Chaired by Prof. Paulina Makinwa - Adebusoye (ECA), the meeting brought together representatives from regional institutions (IFORD, RIPS, IDEP, CERPOD), OAU, ECA, and UNFPA. Key discussions included: Progress on Africa’s ICPD+5 contributions, including country questionnaires and consultant reports on reproductive health and rights. Roles of regional institutions in training, advocacy, and monitoring DND/ICPD-PA implementation. Preparation of an African common position for the 1999 UN General Assembly Special Session. Proposals for the Third Follow-up Committee Meeting (1999) and a five-year work programme (1999–2003) to enhance monitoring and inter-agency collaboration. The meeting emphasized strengthening national and regional capacities, integrating NGOs, and ensuring Africa’s unified voice at ICPD+5. The report was adopted with amendments, and participants were urged to submit input promptly to the Joint Secretariat.
