dc.description.abstractThis country report, which is prepared as Ethiopia’s contribution to the meeting, elaborates, on the condition of human and social development in the country and the initiatives the government of Ethiopia has taken to address the problems. The challenge to achieve social development in post-conflict Ethiopia are enormous. However, the peace that has come to the country after decades of conflict has afforded the country with an opportunity not only to put human and social development at the top of the country’s development agenda, but also to commit more resources to reverse the unacceptable situation existing now. The situation of social development in Ethiopia has reached a critical stage. Poverty is widespread. Food insecurity is the problem of the majority of the. Population. Nutritional and health status and education coverage are very low. Housing problems and unemployment are among the serious problems facing the country.en
