The consequences of general mortality conditions on socioeconomic aspects and the demographic structure cannot be overemphasized. Resources to be used for alleviating the health problems of a society, distortion in the age/sex structure which can influence the production/consumption patterns, social and psychological problems of or plant-hood and widowhood, etc. are some obvious examples of the various consequences of mortality. Among the traditional Malthusian causes of death are famine, war and pestilences such as epidemics, plague and other contagious diseases.
