This survey, entitled survey of economic and social conditions in Africa, 1979-1980 reviews developments in the African region during the 1970s in the framework of the second United nations Development decade, with emphasis on the conditions obtaining in the year 1979. The survey is divided in two parts, the first part reviewing African conditions at the regional level while the second analyses development at country level. Part I is further subdivided into two sections, the first section on economic and social developments at the regional level, the second devoted to a special study on the impact of oil on African economies.
