This statement presented at the seventh session of the commission on relations between the Economic Commission for Africa and the Organization of African Unity. The fact that the two bodies have placed the question of their working relations on their respective agendas might tend to suggest that there have been far-reaching differences between them. The two secretariats are concerned, their personal relations are of the most cordial and working co-operation has never presented any serious problems. The Commission's terms of reference clearly stipulate that it may initiate and participate e in measures for facilitating concerted action for the economic development of Africa, including its social aspects, with a view to raising the level of economic activity and levels of living in Africa, and for maintaining and strengthening the economic relations of countries and territories of Africa, other among themselves and with other countries of the world. The objectives and the structures of the two secretariats, only differences in methods of work springing from their different origins could, explain, but not Justify a formal agreement.
