Function and composition of the Bureau of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development

Abstract

The Bureau of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) oversees the Forum’s proceedings, ensuring inclusive stakeholder participation and implementation of outcomes. Composed of a Chair, three Vice-Chairs, and a Rapporteur, it follows equitable geographic representation, rotating among Africa’s subregions. Key functions include guiding deliberations, monitoring progress on the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063, and advocating outcomes at global forums. For its tenth session, the proposed Bureau composition is: North Africa (Chair), Southern Africa (1st Vice-Chair), Central Africa (2nd Vice-Chair), East Africa (3rd Vice-Chair), and West Africa (Rapporteur). Preference is given to underrepresented member states to enhance inclusivity.
