Report of the Committee on Economic Governance on its first session

Abstract

The report details the first session of the Committee on Economic Governance of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), held online on April 27, 2022. The Committee, established in March 2019, aims to enhance economic governance across African nations by providing evidence-based advice and fostering peer learning. During the session, representatives from various African subregions elected a Bureau to coordinate the Committee's work for the next two years. The session included discussions on the 2022-2023 work programme, focusing on macroeconomic policy, governance, and the impact of global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflicts. The Committee unanimously adopted the work programme and draft report, emphasizing the importance of economic governance in achieving sustainable development goals and addressing issues like corruption and illicit financial flows.
