The report of the Intergovernmental Committee of Senior Officials and Experts for Southern Africa, presented during its thirtieth session in Livingstone, Zambia, addresses critical issues surrounding the energy deficit in the region. The session, themed "Addressing the energy deficit in Southern Africa through investments in new and renewable energy technologies to reduce energy poverty and accelerate sustainable industrialization and structural transformation," highlighted the socioeconomic challenges exacerbated by energy shortages, climate change, and geopolitical tensions. Key observations included the need for enhanced investment in renewable energy, the importance of regional cooperation, and the necessity of addressing public debt and fiscal deficits. The Committee made several recommendations aimed at promoting macroeconomic stability, mobilizing resources for renewable energy projects, and leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area to foster industrialization and job creation.en
