This concept note outlines the significance of infrastructure development in relation to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and its potential to enhance intra-African trade. It emphasizes that robust infrastructure is crucial for economic activity and regional integration, with studies indicating that improvements in infrastructure can lead to substantial increases in trade volumes and economic growth. The note highlights the current inadequacies in Africa's infrastructure, including transport and energy systems, which hinder trade efficiency and increase costs. It calls for significant investments to upgrade critical infrastructure and implement key initiatives to support the AfCFTA.
