This study examines the impact of family ownership on credit access in North Africa using 2019–2020 World Bank Enterprise Surveys data from Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia. Findings reveal that family-owned firms are less likely to apply for and obtain formal loans compared to non-family firms. However, adopting formal business strategies can mitigate this disadvantage. Promoting formal strategies and tailored financial services is essential to enhance credit access for SMEs in the region.en
