Family welfare and development in Africa: social welfare aspects of family planning

Abstract

This monograph has been prepared in response to the deliberations arising from the adoption of its work programme by the Commission for Social Development at its twentieth session. It has also been prepared to describe parameters in the field of family planning with respect to social development. The functions of social welfare in planning with particular emphasis on policy formulation, program planning and Implementation. The programme in family welfare and development was therefore instituted in the context of social welfare aspects of family planning and, in supporting this programme, UNFPA initially funded a preliminary review study of the status of family planning programmes, with special relevance to social welfare in 13 African countries. This monograph is based on the descriptive report of that exercise.
