Demographic dynamics for development : fact sheet

Abstract

This factsheet is based on the research report on the theme “Measuring and analysing the generational economy from national transfer accounts” prepared by the Sub-Regional Office for West Africa (SRO-WA) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The research report is a result of a fruitful partnership between SRO-WA and the Centre of Excellence for Research in Generational Economics (CREG) based in Thiès, Senegal. The factsheet provides policy makers with a comprehensive analysis of demographic dynamics in West Africa. It analyses the economic gains related to a transition from low to high fertility rates. It also spells out the policy imperatives and investments that are essential to reaping the demographic dividend, for an inclusive structural transformation and sustainable development.
