Statement by H.E Dr. Jean Ping chairperson of the African union commission

Abstract

This statement delivered by H. E. Dr. Jean Ping chairperson of the African Union Commission at the Special session of the Africa Partnership forum on climate change. Dr. Ping, on his remarks highlighted that, the African Union attaches significant importance to the issue of climate change because its impacts to retard Africa’s development. Climate change is a problem of global dimensions and for this reason, the solution must be global. the African Union has taken important decisions on climate change. There is need to recognize the urgency, immediacy and greater attention and efforts toward adaptation to minimize climate change impacts in Africa. there is need to adopt a comprehensive framework for addressing adaptation including ensuring that financial and technology transfer commitments to address adaptation needs in Africa by developed country parties are honored by developed countries.
