HIV / AIDS in Africa: the impact on the world of work: Speech by his excellency Mr. Festus G. Mogae president of the republic of BOTSWANA

Abstract

Thisspeech delivered by His Excellency Mr. Festus G. Mogae Presented of the Republic of Botswana at the Africa Development Forum. Mr. G.Mogae, on his remarks highlighted that; Africa is facing the greatest leadership challenge ever known to man. HIV/AIDS is eroding the hard won developmental gains of the past 20 years in Sub-Saharan Africa. Botswana, my country, is a glaring example of this fact. The impact of HIV/AIDS on the population, the economy and the very fabric of our society undermines not only development but poses a serious threat to our security, and life, as we know it. Mr. G.Mogae, also stated that they have a decentralized strategy that focuses national efforts at the district and village level so as to reach people at the grassroots. The private sector, NGOs and CBOs are represented on the National AIDS Council as well as People Living with AIDS (PLWAs) in order to ensure total community mobilization.
