The impact of trade liberalization on economic growth in the Gambia

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of liberalization trade on economic growth in the Gambia during the period from 1970 to 2004.The methodology that is used in this study is based on the classic growth model developed by Lucas (1988) using the time series data. It has been noted that the liberalization of trade has a significant impact on economic growth in The Gambia. AT from the results obtained, the following recommendations were made: (i) the Gambia needs to make more effective use of the preferences it has available as well as the technical assistance it receives; (ii) The Gambia must continue its disengagement program and initiatives such as the development of free zones and the introduction of incentives for investment.
