The present document is submitted pursuant to resolutions 943 (XLIX) of 5 April 2016 and 957 (LI) of 15 May 2018, in which the executive secretary was requested, respectively, to undertake an independent, comprehensive and thorough review of the intergovernmental structure of the commission, and to report to the conference of ministers at its fifty-second session on restructuring the conference structure and subsidiary bodies of the economic commission for Africa, including the intergovernmental committees of experts. The findings of the review carried out by external experts on the existing intergovernmental structure of the commission along with recommendations for consideration by the Commission are presented in the document.
