Report on mission to the institute of statistics and applied economics, Makerere University, to participate in the seminar on improving management services in national statistical systems in Africa, Mbarare, Uganda, 29 April - 3 May 1996

Abstract

The report details a seminar held from April 29 to May 3, 1996, in Mbarara, Uganda, organized by the Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (ISAE) in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The seminar aimed to improve the management of National Statistical Systems (NSS) in Africa. Participants from seven English-speaking African countries discussed various topics, including the organization of NSS, statistical legislation, human resource management, financial resource management, and the dissemination of statistical outputs. The seminar concluded with 59 recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of NSS in Africa, emphasizing the need for better management practices, training, and the adoption of modern information technology.
