The Economic Commission for Africa should take all necessary measures to enable 'it to respond more effectively to the heavy demands being-made on the African region as a result of recent and future-e developments on the international scene. The principal organs of the Commission should also be able to provide the dynamic leadership necessary to the member States of the Commission. One step towards achieving these objectives will be to ensure that the organ responsible for providing technical advice and direction is designed to perform its role efficiently and effectively. This calls for a restructuring of the technical advisory machinery of the Commission in a manner somewhat different from that envisaged in 1971 in the Executive Committee's recommendation that the Technical Committee of Experts should be organized into sub-committees.
