This paper explores the socio-cultural barriers hindering African women's effective participation in development. It examines the traditional gender roles and the impact of these roles on women's involvement in agriculture and the informal sector. The paper highlights the significant contributions of women to food production and the challenges they face due to migration, lack of access to land, and socio-cultural perceptions. It calls for a reevaluation of development theories and practices to better support women's roles in economic development.
