The seminar and study tour, whose detailed programme (annex I) was prepared by the Main Geodesy and Cartography Administration, was based on the project prepared by the ECA and GKES(USSR) and approved by the participating parties at a preparatory meeting which took place in Moscow from 6 to 10 July 1987. The main objective of the seminar and study tour was to enable the African participants to broaden their horizon and to deepen their insight into geo- scientific cartography and remote sensing applications, so that they could apply the experiences gained at the seminar and study tour in the execution of Projects having cartography and remote sensing inputs in their respective countries thereby contributing effectively to their countries national strategies for socio-economic development.
