Abstract
In the paper the development of agricultural statistics in Malawi has been described. The present system of agricultural statistics and the background to the establishment of the present system have been described. A description of how agricultural statistics have contributed to food strategies and polices has been given in the paper. It is expected that the issues raised in the paper which specifically relate to the situation in Malawi will stimulate a lively debate during the workshop.
