Abstract
The Africa Index, published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, serves as a bibliographic journal that compiles selected articles on socio-economic development in Africa. This issue, No. 80, released in June 1999, includes a curated list of periodicals from 1998 and 1999, categorized into various subjects such as administrative reform, agricultural development, economic growth, and gender issues. The index is designed to facilitate easy navigation through bibliographic citations, with descriptors derived from the UNBIS Thesaurus to enhance subject content identification. The journal is divided into two main sections: the first presents bibliographic citations along with their subject descriptors, while the second offers indexes organized alphabetically by author, title, subject, and geographic area. The aim is to assist users in locating specific references efficiently, and feedback is encouraged to improve future editions.
