Abstract

Reports indicate that there was considerable projected· activity in new industrial ventures and the investments forecast in the budget for 1974 at E 565 million were 30 per cent higher than for 1973. Egypt may have been faced in 1974 with a deterioration in its terms of trade because of the need to buy large quantities of wheat at high prices but there is insufficient information available to test this. There were two reports of free trade zones being created in Egypt, one related to a zone on the·· border between Egypt and Libya, the other to two zones for Cairo and Alexandria.
