Abstract

The development of the Sudan economy appears to be accelerating after many years of very poor growth. The real growth rate since 1961 was reported to be just over 4 percent a year and the present plan to 1974/5 calls for a growth rate of 7.6 percent a year. The Sudan pound is used as the unit of currency and this has had an exchange value of 1 Sudan pound 2.872 US dollar since January 1959. Five year development programmes 1946-1951 and 1951-56 ten year plan of economic and social development 1961/62- 1970/71. The five year plan to 1974/75 was published in 1970. Under this plan there are also annual development budgets.
