The objective of this study is to review the progress made in the monetary integration of West African Countries since the decision of the Lome Summit of Heads of State and government of ECOWAS, held in December 1999, to adopt a double-track approach, involving the continuation of the UEMOA track and the introduction of a fast track for the Non-UEMOA countries to rapidly evolve a second monetary zone, which will subsequently merge with UEMOA to form a single monetary zone for ECOWAS.
