Abstract

Statement made by Mr. Dag Hammarskjold Secretary-General of the United Nations at the second session of the Economic commission for Africa. In his statement he highlighted: Africa gradually assumes its rightful place in the international community, it approaches the rest of the world and here may I use the words spoken by Mr. Sekou Toure at the last General Assembly, "not as an antagonistic element but, on the contrary, in a complete spirit of cooperation. Partnership and solidarity and the foundation of the United Nations and it is to translate these principles into practical measures of Economic cooperation that we are gathered today in this Hall.
