Two studies are reported in this volume. The first, a review of international migration in the region, comprises an introduction and eight chapters; Following the introductory remarks, chapter I is devoted to sources and quality of data as well as problems of migration estimation. In the second to fifth chapters inclusive, the volume, causes, patterns and trends of international migration are reviewed for the Northern, Western, Southern and Eastern sub regions as defined in the source referred to earlier. The sixth chapter examines the refugee problem. Chapter VII briefly examines contemporary governmental policies in the region. Chapter, VIII then summarizes the main findings of the review and highlights its recommendations and research priorities. The second study in this volume examines population trends and policies in the ECA member States. Its country classification follows that of the first study. After an introduction, the first chapter presents the African demographic situation as assessed in 1970 while the second examines the assumptions for the projections. The following two chapters examine the future prospects of population and population policies, respectively. A final chapter presents a summary and recommendations.
