The document reports on a 1999 UNECA training workshop in Addis Ababa focused on the PEDA (Population-Environment-Development-Agriculture) model. PEDA is an Excel-based simulation tool designed to analyze interactions between population growth, environmental degradation, and food security in Africa. The workshop covered theoretical foundations, data requirements, and practical applications, including scenario simulations for Burkina Faso. Key topics included the "vicious cycle" of poverty and environmental stress, multi-state population projections, and policy advocacy. Participants received a CD-ROM with the PEDA software and manual for further use. The model aims to support sustainable development planning by illustrating the impacts of alternative policies.
