This paper discusses preliminary project ideas aimed at promoting an African industry in the field of transport and communications equipment, as part of the United Nations Transport and Communications Decade in Africa (UNTACDA). It highlights the significant investment required in various transport sectors, including road, rail, maritime, air, and inland water transport, emphasizing the need for local manufacturing capabilities to reduce dependency on imports. The paper outlines specific project ideas for the development of the transport equipment industry, including the establishment of manufacturing units for road vehicles, construction equipment, railway materials, and maritime vessels. It also addresses the challenges faced by African countries in maintaining and upgrading their transport infrastructure and the importance of skilled personnel in the sector. Recommendations include fostering regional cooperation, promoting multi-purpose production units, and conducting feasibility studies for manufacturing spare parts and equipment locally. The conclusion stresses the necessity for a comprehensive industrial program to enhance the self-reliance of African nations in transport equipment production.en
