ECA and institution building in Africa : a profile of ECA sponsored regional and subregional institutions

Abstract

The purpose of this publication is to draw attention to the progress so far made by the Economic Commission for Africa over the years in establishing regional and sub-regional institutions in Africa. Multinational institution building in Africa has been given priority attention by the Commission since its establishment in view of their importance in increasing the technical and development capability of the continent and in promoting in a practical and concrete manner technical cooperation among African countries. to achieve the objectives of economic integration in Africa, it is necessary to establish multinational institutions to promote development and foster the creation of economic units geared towards regional economic integration.
