The United Nations Technical Meeting on Aging for the Africa Region was held in Lagos, Nigeria, from 24 to 27 February 1981. The purpose of the meeting was to convene a group of experts from the African Region to generate ideas for a report which will be used as a basic working document for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa’s Regional meeting of policy makers which will be held later in 1981 in preparation for the United Nations 1982 World Assembly on Aging (WAA). The experts considered three working documents: Demographic Aspects of the Aging Population in African Countries; Aging and Development: The Humanitarian Issues and Aging and Development: The Developmental Issues. They were requested with these global documents as a framework to focus on the situation of the aging in the Africa region.
