The 1983 World programme of Industrial Statistics, the third programme of the kind organized under the auspices of the Statistical Commission of the United Nations, is a general framework which countries can use to establish national industrial statistics systems to cope with the growing need for data felt by politicians economists and development aid agencies. After a brief introduction to the 1983 World Programme of Industrial Statistics, the present' document will take stock of the situation in the region and endeavor to highlight the priority elements of the Program for African countries and the resources required to promote its implementation at the national level.
