The present report contains an analysis of informality and inequality in a single framework to develop suitable policies for inclusive and sustainable development. The current focus of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on inclusive and equitable development in Africa places a high premium on addressing all forms of inequality on the continent, in line with the global and continental development frameworks, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. This report is an abridged version of the African Social Development Report. It will be presented at the second session of the Committee on Gender and Social Development to inform the Committee on the key policy messages that highlight the need to increase access to quality education and skills, especially for young people and women, to reduce both informality and inequality in Africa.
