African Climate Policy Center : programme strategy 2017-2021

Abstract

In recognition of the challenges posed by climate change for the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Africa, ECA and the Global Climate Observing System co-hosted a regional workshop to deliberate on options to address the challenges. The workshop resulted in the creation of the Climate Information for Development in Africa program, commonly known as ClimDev-Africa. The objective of the program was to guide the effective integration of climate information and services into development planning and to ensure the mainstreaming of climate considerations into policies and programs aimed at achieving the Millennium Development Goals. The overall goal of ACPC and the ClimDev-Africa program is to contribute to poverty reduction through successful mitigation and adaptation to climate change in Africa and to improve the capacity of African countries to participate effectively in multilateral climate negotiations.
