Zambia like other committed members of the United Nations participated in the Fourth World Conference on Women (FWCW) held in 1995 in Beijing, China. On return, Zambia planned to implement the Fourth World Conference on Women in relation to Zambia's situation. The government has recognized the need for full participation of women in the development process at all levels to ensure sustainable development and attainment of equality and equity between the sexes. Government therefore took the opportunity that the FWCW presented. This document therefore is an attempt to report on how Zambia has implemented the SPAW in line with the Beijing Platform for Action. Various ministries, NGOs and other actors were assigned activities including indicators of achievement, time frames and responsibilities to ensure effective implementation of the SPAW. In the final analysis the success of the SPAW will be measured on how equitably women and men participate and benefit from the development process of the country. When women and men have the same rights, obligations and opportunities in all areas of life then will the SPAW and all other efforts towards the advancement of women be achieved.
