There are many ways to define inflation, but discussions about the correct definition of inflation are rather meaningless. Quite regardless of the definition which might be adopted, a close examination of the matter will inevitably indicate that any theory of inflation which does not take into account, implicitely or explicitely, the factors which cause prices to change is hardly worthy of its name. All theories of inflation after World War II are clearly oriented in this direction. It is thus that modern theories make a distinction between cost-push and demand-pull or cost and demand inflation.
