United Nations Transport and Communications Decade in Africa: second phase programme 1984-1988

Abstract

This prograirme is presented in an entirely different manner from the previous programmes. Projects are presented in a more functional manner by classifying them according to affinity: rehabilitation and maintenance projects, training and technical assistance projects, linkage projects for inter-State integration (transit corridors, transafrican highways with their feeder links, inter-State air links), regional, subregional and purely national projects. Considerable importance was accorded to rehabilitation and maintenance as well as training and technical assistance the progranme comprises 1,054 projects costing $US 18,397 million. The transport sector has 582 projects costing a total of $US14,466 million,. Ihe communications sector comprises 472 projects estimated at $US 3,931 million. The list of transport projects selected for the second phase of the Decadecan be found in annex I; the osnminications projects are in annex II- Projects have been classified by nodes to siirplify reference to them.
