Abstract
The ECA secretariat has translated and reproduced the reports on the development of statistics from those countries which submitted them sufficiently early. Unfortunately, at the time of writings only about ten have been received. There are grounds for believing, however, that the statistical activities and problems which African statistical units have to deal with do not vary so widely from one country to another that those countries which were good enough to submit a description of their activities in good time cannot be considered as representative of Africa as a whole.
