United Nations Trust Fund for African Development UNTFAD : progress report on pledges and payments by member states and institutions, project implementation and expenditures for the period 19811982

Abstract

The above table shows that at each pledging conference African Governments and financial institutions have successively pledged appreciably less than on the previous occasion. It also indicates that, almost six years after the Lagos Pledging Conference and four years after the Rabat Pledging Conference, $155 409 and $906 927 are still owed in respect of those Conferences. Furthermore, of the pledges made at Freetown two years ago $1,265 802 (25 per cent) still outstanding. The overall picture to be drawn, therefore, is that tangible support to UHIFAD is waning in terms of both pledges to the Fund and the fulfillment of those pledges. Given the above situation, it is hoped, that African Governments, heeding Conference of Ministers resolution 453 (XVIII) , will pledge generously to the Fund at the fourth pledging conference and will also pay up their outstanding contributions in a more timely fashion.
