Analysis of distribution by region of world air traffic during the past Decade leads to comparisons that Africa has remained the region with the least tonne-kilometer performance in air transport as well as passenger, freight and postal traffic. In fact, currently, African accounts for only 3.4 per cent of world air traffic. Its annual traffic growth rate was 5.2 per cent while the world average was 7.7 per cent. In 1988, African airlines accounted for 1.2 per cent of the total passengers in the world,0.9 per cent of world revenue passenger-kilometers and one percent of total world freight tonne-kilometers.
