The report discusses the problem of post-harvest food losses (PHFL) in the Eastern and Southern African Sub region (18 countries). It also analyses the critical areas of action for reduction of PHFL with the objective of increasing national food supplies, promoting inter-regional trade and co-operation and enhancing the principle of self help and collective effort. Three main issues relating to (PHFL) are singled out for discussion namely: Research, Training and Major Development Activities. Cereals, as the most important item in the diet, are given emphasis.
