Abstract
The recovery in Africa's agricultural production in I962/63 from the low level of the previous year was sufficient only to take it back to about the same as in I96O/6I, and on a per caput basis production was lower in 1962/63 than five years before. Even though imports of food have continued to increase rapidly there may therefore have been a slight deterioration in food supplies per caput. At the same time there are few signs of improvements in the quality of the diet.
