The Programme of Work and Priorities of the United Nations Centre for Housing, Building and Harming, New York, has in past years included work on the question of natural disasters caused by earthquake and hurricanes, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa has made contributions in this regard and rendered technical assistance in the case of earthquake disaster in Uganda. The following Model Regulations for Snail Buildings in Earthquake and Hurricane Areas are being made available to Governments of member States of the Economic Commission for Africa and other interested parties. Member States may wish to examine, adopt, or make comments on the Model Regulations according to national conditions. All such comments, particularly of a technical character, will be appreciated by the secretariat of ECA.
