The East African Building Society is the only building society in Kenya, registered under the Building Societies Act of 1956. There are two other financial institutions conducting business similar to that of a building society, but both are registered under the Banking and Companies Act. One is a limited company and the other one is a public corporation Set up jointly by the Kenya Government and Commonwealth Development Corporation.
