In this paper, an attempt is made first to analyse the status of knowledge on solar energy distribution in East Africa, thereby accessing the used and needed equipment for improvement of data on direct and diffuse radiation in the area; third, to review technological development constraints and ways to fourth, to survey prospects for solar energy utilization at a larger scale in East Africa highlighting known case histories; fifth, to survey prospects for local manufacturing solar energy conversion devices in the area using local materials and, sixth, to comment on the impact of solar energy utilization in the entire East African Region.
