The present paper is a general review of the main primary ocean energy
sources which could be considered as future alternative sources of energy for some of the African countries. of these sources, it is widely recognised that ocean thermal energy
conversion shows the most promise for the early development of commercial
quantities of power among the ocean technologies. Wave energy may be
considered as of second importance followed by ocean currents. As far as tidal
energy is concerned, its technical viability already has been proved in France and USSR.
