UNESCO and Adult Education in Africa : prepared by the secretariat of UNESCO

Abstract

Since the World Conference of Montreal (1960), which gave a new direction to the idea Of adult education V defining its content, its' role, its methods and its organization in "a changing world", the feeling that there is an urgent need to give an adequate education to adults is steadily gaining ground, particularly among those who are concerned with the developing countries. For Africa in particular, UNESCO's contribution in this field ranges from theoretical studies within the context of conferences and symposia to practical achievements such as the organization of training courses and the provision of experts.
