The disruption of the social structure which we deal with in another work has led to the establishment, since 1960, of a very extensive squatting zone in Leopoldville. Leaving aside the inherent difficulties of rapid urbanization, the fact that the squatting problem has still not been solved in a town such as Leopoldville, where the population is doubling in less than 20 years by natural increase alone is found to hamper considerably the normal development of this urban centre.
