The future of CASD and its work programme

Abstract

Statistical development in Africa continues to be an area of major concern for African member States and their partners. The Co-ordinating Committee on African Statistical Development (CASD) was established in 1992 by the ECA Conference of Ministers responsible for Economic Development and Planning. CASD, which is charged with the responsibility for co-ordinating statistical development in Africa, has been addressing this issue ever since its establishment. Although tremendous progress has been achieved, much still remains to be done. A major achievement of international co-operation for Africa's statistical development was the preparation of the Strategy for the Implementation of the Addis Ababa Plan of Action for Statistical Development in Africa in the 1990s, adopted by the Conference of Ministers in 1992.
