UNICEF is now aiding 43 countries and territories on the African continent, some 25 of which are newly independent states. While much of UNICEF's past relationships with Africa in regard to planning and development was with a small number of centralized administrations, UNICEF is now - dealing with a large number of independent governments and working with people who are seeking African solutions to African problems.
